STEAM education at Pui Tak Canossian College began in the 2017–2018 school year, when the school explored innovative ways for students to apply their knowledge of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics creatively to solve real-life problems through hands-on experiences.
To further advance this vision, the school secured support from the Quality Education Fund (QEF) under the Dedicated Funding Programme for Publicly-funded Schools, establishing the STEAM Centre as a foundation for innovation. Equipped with advanced tools such as 3D printers, laser cutters, and drones, the Centre provides a dynamic environment where students can explore, design, and invent.
Building on this foundation, the school has developed a School-based AI Education Curriculum planned with a competency-based approach, which aligns with the Education Bureau's (EDB) framework while incorporating PTCC's own practical and student-centred approach. The curriculum emphasises both AI fundamentals and hands-on applications, allowing students to grasp essential concepts such as machine learning and data representation. Through the TAP (Think-Ask-Present) pedagogy, students are guided to think independently first, and then make good use of AI to expand their ideas. Students' AI literacy is also enhanced, enabling them to critically evaluate AI-generated content and use AI responsibly.
A school-based digital literacy curriculum is also offered, helping students master e-learning skills more effectively and enhance their problem-solving skills and creative thinking.
Students are also given the opportunity to pursue an officially recognised UX/UI Design training programme under the Hong Kong Qualifications Framework (QF). This certified course offers comprehensive IT development opportunities, integrating academic knowledge with industry-relevant skills and preparing students for future studies and emerging careers in the digital world.
Beyond the classroom, a wide range of STEAM-related extracurricular activities allows students to extend their learning and showcase their creativity. The school regularly organises workshops, competitions, and exhibitions, while participation in inter-school contests and visits to technology companies and partner schools broaden students’ horizons and inspire innovative thinking. In 2024, PTCC proudly showcased students’ STEAM projects at the Learning & Teaching Expo, earning enthusiastic praise from visitors for their imagination, innovation, and relevance to everyday life.
